Each fan resembles a thistle or artichoke flower and sits in its own ogee-shaped compartment. Among the foliage, small cream-colored clusters of berries appear, alongside speckled tulip-like buds and blue-green buds on meandering tendrils. Left and right mirror each other exactly, which gives the busy design a sense of structure.

Colours and design of Helena Velvet fabric

The Indigo/Boughs colourway builds up from the dark. Against the navy, the foliage lights up in olive green, bottle green and blue-green. The light blue flowers catch the eye, while cream and sand add a sense of airiness. Fine cream outlines trace every leaf and bud, so the flat design stays crisp even from a distance. This clear linework is typical of the Arts and Crafts style and gives the fabric the character of a textile print with great depth.

Morris & Co fabric in your interior

Because the motifs repeat in staggered rows, the pattern forms one continuous field of ornament across a larger length of fabric. The dark ground keeps that field calm, so the fabric gives a room warmth and depth without shouting. Pair Helena Velvet fabric with plain shades taken from the foliage or the navy to show the design at its best.
