gingerbread-behang-mind-the-gap
Gingerbread wallpaper

Gingerbread wallpaper by Mind the Gap with hearts and arrows

Gingerbread wallpaper places red hearts, pierced by pink arrows, along a blue central band with red borders and white-and-green chevrons. The design is mirrored on either side, with red trumpet-shaped flowers, green bows with curling tendrils and spiky green diamonds with purple-red centers and a yellow dot. In between, large rosettes stand out, outlined in blue and filled with patches of orange, red, light blue, green and purple, like stained glass rendered in paint. The result is a repeating pattern in vertical strips that keeps drawing your eye back to the central axis.

The hand-painted imagery of Gingerbread wallpaper

The design has the look of gouache. You can see brushstrokes, edges that bleed irregularly and areas of color where the paint lies thicker in some places and thinner in others. No line is ruler-straight, and it is precisely that naive hand that keeps the strict symmetry lively. On the wall it therefore reads more like a painted panel than wallpaper off the roll. This Mind the Gap wallpaper calls for a wall that deserves to be seen.

Colourways of Gingerbread wallpaper: Cream, Anthracite and Turmeric

The motif stays the same in all three colourways, and only the background changes. Cream provides an off-white base on which red and blue light up crisply. Anthracite, a very dark blue-gray, makes the colors glow and gives a room more depth. Turmeric sets everything on an orange-yellow ground and turns the wall into a warm whole.
