Some of the pomegranates have burst open, so you can see the seeds inside. Small five-petalled flowers sit between the narrow, pointed leaves, and behind them fine curling tendrils give the design depth. The drawing looks like a woodblock print: flat fields of colour, clear outlines and stippling on the skins of the fruit. There is no central focal point; the pattern simply continues.

Colours of Fruit fabric: from cream to steel blue

In Cream/Teal the design sits on a cream ground. Grey-green leaves bear oranges, yellow lemons and pink pomegranates, with small red flowers and brown branches in between. This creates a light, open look that works well alongside white and light wood. Blue/Thyme is deeper: olive-green leaves and ochre and mustard-yellow fruit on steel blue, with touches of orange-red here and there. In total there are eleven colourways, from Parchment/Bayleaf to Black/Claret and Paradise Blue.

Morris & Co fabric on an armchair

In the lifestyle photo, a wine-red version upholsters an armchair in front of an open fireplace with red glazed tiles. The fruits are roughly the size of your palm, so the pattern repeats several times across the backrest. Next to an octagonal inlaid side table and a Persian rug, Fruit fabric shows that pattern on pattern works, as long as the colours complement each other.
