Dedar fabrics come from the Italian family business founded in 1976 by Elda and Nicola Fabrizio, in the silk region around Como. The name Dedar is a contraction of "design d'arredamento", literally home furnishing. Unexpected colour palettes, a refined hand and distinctive designs make this Milanese house a firm favourite among interior designers and discerning buyers.

The story behind Dedar fabrics

Since 1997 the brand has been led by the second generation, siblings Caterina and Raffaele Fabrizio. Under their guidance the company grew into an internationally respected name in home textiles, with a collection that, alongside upholstery and curtain fabrics, also includes passementerie and wall coverings. The vast majority of production remains in Italian hands, at specialised weaving mills that keep the region's craftsmanship alive. Between 2011 and 2020 Dedar also produced the home textile and wall covering collections for Hermès, a collaboration that further underlined the house's reputation.

Materials and look of Dedar fabrics

What sets Dedar fabrics apart is the combination of technical and aesthetic precision. The collections read like an ode to yarn and weaving technique: from velvet-soft velours and airy voiles that filter daylight to sturdy weaves with a graphic motif. Beyond weaving, the atelier also employs techniques such as embroidery, metal print and sequins, giving each design its own texture and depth. The character ranges from understated and natural to expressive and colourful, so there is a suitable fabric for every interior style. If you want to be sure of the exact composition of a specific design, request a sample or consult the product information.

Signature collections and wallpaper from Dedar

The range extends well beyond fabric by the metre. For those who want wall and window to work in harmony, there are several options within the same atelier DNA:

Where Dedar fabrics come into their own

In the living room, curtain fabrics from Dedar give a space instant character. A bold pattern at the window calls for a calm, plain upholstery fabric in a matching tone, so the whole stays in balance. In a dining or study room you opt for upholstery that can handle intensive use; examples from the range include the Guardiagrele fabric, the Millicent fabric and the Phi fabric. If you want to coordinate wall and upholstery, take a look at the textile wallpaper collections too for a cohesive look throughout the room.

Applying and caring for Dedar fabrics

You can only properly judge colour and texture once you have the fabric in your hands. So always order a sample first and place it in the daylight of the room where the material will hang or lie. This way you immediately see how the design relates to your floor, wall and other furnishings, and you avoid surprises at the final cut. For care and cleaning advice, follow the label of the fabric in question, as this varies from weave to weave.
