Based on an original Zoffany archive piece, this special design references the traditional Indian Dabu printing technique, where motifs are pressed onto fabric with mud before dyeing.
A subtle and graceful design
Dabu stripe consists of a repeating pattern of twisted vertical stripes, decorated with flower sprigs that seem to float on a fine dotted background. The whole looks light, airy and artisanal – perfect for lovers of textile-like patterns on the wall. The stripes are not rigid, but playful and organically shaped, as if they were drawn by hand. This graceful twist gives the wallpaper movement and a soft, friendly appearance.
The delicate flower branches between the stripes add an extra layer of charm and romance. The dots in the background provide visual peace and balance to the whole.
What is Dabu? An ode to artisanal printing techniques
The name Dabu comes from the Hindi word for 'print' and refers to an ancient textile tradition from India. This involves stamping patterns with mud blocks and then painting them, creating a unique layering and texture. The original Dabu Stripe design was executed in indigo blue, which is still reflected in the contemporary colour options of this wallpaper.
