The right wallpaper paste largely determines how well and how long your wallpaper stays on the wall. A refined non-woven design behaves differently from a classic paper wallpaper, yet with the right paste you avoid open seams, bubbles and discolouration after drying in both cases.

Which paste belongs with which wallpaper

Not every wallpaper calls for the same handling, and therefore not the same approach. Non-woven wallpaper is hung by pasting the wall and placing the dry length straight onto it; this works quickly and keeps the design clean. Paper wallpaper is left to soak briefly after you have pasted the length itself, so the material can expand before it meets the wall. Clearpro is suited to both methods and dries almost invisibly, even if a little paste accidentally reaches the front.

Wallpaper paste for heavier and natural wall coverings

With sturdier materials, adhesive strength matters all the more. A vinyl wallpaper has a dense top layer and weighs more, so it needs support for longer while it dries. Natural wall coverings such as sisal wallpaper and raffia respond more strongly to the indoor climate and ask for calm, even handling, with the lengths deliberately remaining visible as part of the look. Here too Clearpro is sufficient, provided you butt the lengths neatly and do not add too much water. Some brands specify their own material-specific paste; in that case it is noted on the product itself.

How much wallpaper paste you need

The amount you need depends on the number of rolls, the material and how absorbent your surface is. A smooth, primed wall takes less than a porous or freshly plastered surface.
