The Deserts wallpaper collection Pierre Frey

The Deserts wallpaper by Pierre Frey: desert motifs with a hand-drawn touch

With The Deserts wallpaper you bring the desert indoors through drawings with a hand-drawn character. Pierre Frey combines figures, brushstrokes and undulating surfaces in this collection, each on a background that looks like woven fabric. Sometimes the image is full of colour, sometimes it is limited to two shades. The repeat always runs across the entire wall, so that a wall becomes one large scene. Sand, wind and water are the subjects, but the execution differs from pattern to pattern: from small standing figures to scale-like strokes and wide brown waves.

Patterns in The Deserts wallpaper collection

Bedouins wallpaper shows small standing figures, often with a basket or jug on their head. They are filled with stripes, dots or flat colour in brown, blue, green, pink and terracotta on off-white. Les dunes wallpaper stacks arched brushstrokes with frayed edges into dense rows that resemble scales, petrol blue on off-white. La source wallpaper distributes undulating dark brown surfaces across irregular panels, separated by thin lines on a light brown woven background. The name of Sirocco wallpaper refers to the warm desert wind, while Mojave wallpaper is inspired by ikat weaves. You will also find Peninsule wallpaper, Ammos wallpaper, Agafay wallpaper and Agadez wallpaper in this series. Safari wallpaper, Kasbah wallpaper, Wahiba wallpaper and L'explorateur wallpaper are also part of the collection, as are Siwa wallpaper, Tamaris wallpaper and Borkou wallpaper. The overview ends with L'arbre du voyageur wallpaper and Ubari wallpaper.

The images show how the patterns work together with their surroundings. Bedouins fills a living room and a blue-framed niche above a white built-in bench, with blue and green cushions that pick up the colours of the figures. Les dunes hangs in a bedroom above light blue painted panelling. La source forms the background for a round walnut side table with two ochre mugs. If you choose The Deserts wallpaper, you can echo the colours of the wall in cushions, paint and pottery.
