Les Dessins 4 wallpaper collection by Pierre Frey

Les Dessins 4 wallpaper by Pierre Frey with hand-drawn patterns

The Les Dessins 4 wallpaper by Pierre Frey shows what an artist's hand can do on a wall. Figures, vases, loops and forests are drawn or painted, and that loose stroke remains visible in every pattern. Black and white often take centre stage, with lines you recognise as ink on paper. In between are patterns that seek colour: a parade of costumed figures, scenes from everyday Japanese life, butterflies in soft shades. Some designs fill the wall with a tight rhythm of rows or strips, others let the drawing roam freely across the surface.

Patterns in the Les Dessins 4 wallpaper collection

In Beau monde wallpaper there are rows of hand-sized figures in long robes, each with its own motif of checks, zigzags, dots or braiding, coloured in ochre, red, pink, green and blue on off-white. There's even a figure with an elephant head among them. Totem wallpaper is abstract: white loops, ovals and eye shapes form irregular vertical strips on blackish grey. Vases Masques wallpaper shows large vases and jugs as black line drawings, with palm leaves and a leopard as a handle, connected by one winding line. Ogaki wallpaper paints everyday life in Japan in colour. Le printemps du mekong metal wallpaper follows the layout of a toile de Jouy with chinoiseries and scenes along the river. Broceliande wallpaper is a watercolour sketch of a dense forest, while La serre aux papillons wallpaper shows realistic butterflies and insects in soft shades. Fontaine et animaux wallpaper gives a neoclassical motif a contemporary treatment.

In the images you can see how the patterns behave in a space. Beau monde turns a dressing area with a copper clothes rack and green side wall into a small gallery. Against Totem, a yellow sculpture stands out, because the blackish grey keeps the rest quiet. In front of Vases Masques stand real vases with stripes, dots or one black line, as if they've stepped out of the pattern. This is how the Les Dessins 4 wallpaper works as both background and subject.
