Tali wallpaper by Arte: relief of inlaid cord

Tali wallpaper is all about lines you can feel. Arte was inspired by inlaid cord for this collection: cord-like lines lie in relief on the wall, in the same colour as the background. From a distance the wall reads as a calm surface. Come closer and you see arches, loops and grids that catch the light. Most patterns are abstract and built up from square fields. The colours you see here stay close to earth and chalk: dusty pink, terracotta, copper and off-white. This way the wall itself becomes the object in the room.

In Tamba wallpaper, bundles of parallel lines are laid in arches, U-shapes, herringbone patterns and small triangles. Hand-laid cords under a semi-transparent plaster layer give the dusty pink to terracotta surface a mottled skin, like plasterwork. Sarana wallpaper works on a larger scale: thick, rounded cords meander in labyrinth-like loops over a copper-coloured wall, with a light sheen on the relief. Atlas wallpaper is more structured. Wavy seams divide the off-white wall into squares and within each section fine concentric lines form leaf shapes and quarter circles. Strelitzia wallpaper chooses a figurative subject: a large leaf motif inspired by tropical plants, inlaid with fine cords. Edge wallpaper follows the same idea of inlaid cord in an organic pattern with a calm feel.

Tali by Arte at home: relief, colour and light

Because the pattern is formed in relief, the wall changes with the light. Grazing light from a window or lamp brings the lines into sharp focus; in diffuse light the pattern recedes into texture.
