The Unfinished Works wallpaper by Morris and Co: leaves and flowers on the wall
With The Unfinished Works wallpaper you bring a densely planted garden indoors. In this collection by Morris and Co, historical sketches by William Morris have been developed into complete patterns for the wall. Leaves and flowers form the common thread, but the patterns differ greatly in scale and drawing style. One is large and dark, with leaves that are shaded as if they were painted with a brush. Another is small and light, with fine contour lines on a striped background. In between you'll find a flat, graphic pattern on cream, in which green and ochre set the tone.
Patterns in The Unfinished Works wallpaper collection
Lent Lily wallpaper is large and dark. Salmon-pink tulip-shaped flowers sit among curled leaves in sage and olive green, on a deep teal background full of small cream and red flowers. Daisy & Oak wallpaper is mirrored around vertical axes and shows dark green oak leaves, ochre-yellow flower heads and coral-red tulip buds on cream, without shading. Oak & Blossom wallpaper is small in scale, with tendrils of sage-green oak leaves and small orange and yellow flowers on stripes of cream and beige. The names of the other patterns refer to their subject: tulips in Wild Tulip & Vine wallpaper, Persian Tulip wallpaper and Scrolling Tulip wallpaper, iris and rose in Iris & Rose wallpaper, bluebells and anemones in Woodbell & Anemone wallpaper, cornflowers in Cornflower wallpaper, chamomile in Chamomile wallpaper and peonies in Peony Trellis wallpaper. Walthamstow wallpaper and Norbury wallpaper complete the range.
Morris and Co wallpaper in your interior: choosing based on scale and background
In the room settings, the patterns are always shown behind the same arrangement: a wooden console table, a terracotta lamp with a pleated shade and a grey pot with greenery. This way you can clearly see what the background does. Against a deep teal wall, wood and terracotta stand out. On cream and beige they blend quietly into the whole. If you're looking for a wall that defines the space, choose a large scale. If you want more calm, a small pattern works better.
