Thibaut wallpaper

Thibaut wallpaper comes from the oldest wallpaper house in the United States: the company was founded in 1886 by Richard E. Thibaut, then 29 years old, on Madison Avenue in New York. Today it draws on nearly 140 years of design history, and you recognise that layered tradition immediately in every Thibaut wallpaper: lush botanical prints, refined chinoiserie and the timeless charm of woven textures.

How Thibaut wallpaper unites heritage and innovation in one brand

What makes this brand so distinctive is the balance between classic design traditions and fresh innovation. Its design repertoire ranges from historical reproductions, toile and chinoiserie to tropical and playful motifs. Damask patterns sit alongside jungle silhouettes and quiet geometry, always with a colour sense that is unmistakably its own. The designs originate in the brand's own design studios, which explains why a Thibaut wallpaper is never detached from its era yet never simply blends into it. Over the years Thibaut expanded from a pure wallpaper maker into a complete design house with fabrics, and with the acquisitions of British house Anna French (2007) and Italian textile brand Coraggio (2022) its signature grew further still.

Materials and look of wallpaper by Thibaut

The use of materials is as rich as the pattern palette. Many designs are available on supple, project-ready wallpaper, while the grasscloth lines revolve precisely around a natural, tactile presence: a woven texture that gives a wall depth and warmth. That natural look brings calm to a room without falling flat. A major advantage of wallpaper by Thibaut is that many collections also exist as fabric, so you can match curtains, upholstery and cushions seamlessly to the wall for a considered, finished interior.

Signature collections of Thibaut wallpaper

The range is broad; these collections give a good sense of the signature:

• Mural Resource wallpaper collection Thibaut — the Mural Resource wallpaper collection by Thibaut brings the grandeur of classical murals to contemporary interiors.
• Fairhaven wallpaper collection Thibaut — botanical motifs and classic patterns, from flowering branches to coastal landscapes.
• Grasscloth Resource 7 — woven grasscloth with a warm, tactile texture
• Boxwood — refined botanical patterns with a classic touch
• Texture Resource 9 — rich material textures for a subtle, sophisticated interior
• Yutori — calm, Japanese-inspired designs with a meditative mood
• Canopy — jungle silhouettes and leaf motifs for a lively accent
• Palm Grove — tropical palm leaves and sunny colours for a relaxed feel

Thibaut wallpaper in your interior: where it works

The grasscloth textures are ideally suited to a hallway or study, where the material sets the mood instantly without becoming overpowering. Botanical and tropical designs work well as an accent wall in a living room or bedroom: pair them with wooden furniture and linen curtains for a space that feels like a refined hotel suite. Unsure which design suits your room? Then take a look at the matching fabrics from the same collection too, so wall and window dressing reinforce each other rather than compete.

Applying and testing wallpaper by Thibaut

Always order a sample first before making a final choice, as colours and textures look different on a screen than in reality. You can easily work out how many rolls you need with the wallpaper calculator. If you opt for grasscloth or another natural woven design, we recommend working with a professional wallpaper hanger: these materials call for specific application techniques and are more sensitive to lengths that have to align precisely.
