The Borkou wallpaper from Pierre Frey's Deserts collection is a tribute to artisanal embroidery techniques and natural materials. The design evokes the impression of strips of jute canvas in different shades, carefully and precisely hand-stitched together. This structure is convincingly displayed on a fibrous, metallised base, which adds a subtle sheen to the whole. The result? A wall covering with depth, rhythm and a tactile appearance.
Embroidery as visual inspiration
Borkou is inspired by textile techniques such as embroidery, stitching and patching. The printed composition artistically mimics the effect of hand-stitched lines on natural textiles. This gives the design an organic feel, while the combination of light and dark shades creates visual layers.
