PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Mary Isobel fabric by Morris & Co with trailing tendrils and tulip buds

Mary Isobel fabric sends winding stems trailing vertically across the cloth, with large curling leaves drawn in outline. Between them sit tulip-like buds, flat rosettes with a checked centre and small red-outlined leaves shaped like a maple leaf. Look closely and you'll find small floral sprigs and a few bees. The overall effect resembles crewelwork: you can see stitch lines and outlined shapes, as if someone had worked each leaf with needle and thread.

Colours of Mary Isobel fabric: Rose/Slate, Wine/Linen and Pink/Ivory

There are three colourways. Rose/Slate has a beige ground with olive green, ochre and orange, complemented by rose red, grey-blue and mauve brown. This mix feels warm and autumnal. Wine/Linen sits on a light, linen-coloured base and centres on aubergine and purple, with rose red, mustard yellow, green and brown as counterpoints. This gives the pattern more depth. Pink/Ivory completes the trio. Because the ground is light in both variants shown, the busy pattern keeps an airy feel and every tendril remains legible.

Morris & Co fabric as curtains in the living room

In the lifestyle photo, this Morris & Co fabric hangs as long, pleated curtains beside a large window and a blue-grey wall. The largest flowers are roughly the size of a palm and one pattern repeat spans about half a metre, so the design stays recognisable in the folds. An armchair with a small leaf pattern and a cushion in the same fabric show you how to combine it. You'll find more designs in the Morris & Co fabric collection.

Maintenance of curtain and furniture fabrics

To keep your curtains looking beautiful for a long time, regular and careful maintenance is important.

Avoid direct sunlight as much as possible, as this can cause discoloration over time. TIP! Make sure your curtains are lined; this protects the main fabric.

For light soiling, you can freshen up the fabric with a slightly damp cloth. Do not use cleaning agents or excessive water. Always treat stains carefully and test any cleaner on an inconspicuous area of the fabric first.

Recommended maintenance products:

For curtain fabrics we recommend James products:

  • James Interior Cleaner – suitable for both natural and synthetic fabrics. Ideal for freshening curtains without damaging the fiber structure.
  • James Stain Wonder – helps remove stains, for example from contact or air pollution.

Apply the product to a white terrycloth towel, not directly onto the fabric, and dab gently. Let the fabric dry naturally, preferably out of direct sunlight.

Maintenance of furniture fabric

Furniture fabrics such as chair, sofa and cushion covers require regular care for a long life and a fresh appearance.

Vacuum the surface weekly with a soft brush attachment to remove dirt, hair, and dust. Rotate cushions regularly to prevent uneven wear and tear, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

In case of stains, it's important to act quickly: blot immediately with a clean, slightly damp cloth (do not rub). For safe and effective cleaning, use James products, specially developed for upholstery fabrics:

  • James Interior Cleaner – freshens furniture upholstery and removes light soiling without damaging the fibers.
  • James Stain Wonder – ideal for removing stains caused by drinks, food remains or pets.

For a thorough cleaning or to remove stubborn stains, it's wise to have the fabric professionally cleaned. This will keep the fabric beautiful, supple, and fresh-colored.
