Sta Cruz wallpaper by Coordonne: plant sketches in painted frames

With Sta Cruz wallpaper you cover a wall with botanical studies, each in its own painted frame. Four plants alternate: a sprig with small orange flowers, an umbellifer with broad leaves, a branch with rose-like blossom, and narrow lanceolate leaves with red buds. Beside each plant are scribbled traces of handwriting, as if someone had been making notes in a sketchbook. Leaves and flowers grow over the edges of the frames, so the grid never feels rigid.

Watercolour and pencil: how Sta Cruz wallpaper works in your space

The plants are rendered in watercolour, with fine pencil lines that just hint at the shapes. The frames are loosely painted too, with irregular edges. On the wall they form a regular grid of medium-sized panels. At a standard room height you will count about seven rows. That rhythm brings calm to a wall behind a daybed or in an alcove by the window. Paired with a terracotta tiled floor, a wooden beam and a kilim runner, the room takes on the warmth of a summer house.

Six colourways of Sta Cruz wallpaper

In Ocre the frames take on an ochre to mustard-yellow tone, with sage-green leaves and orange and terracotta flowers on a cream background. Celadon features grey-green frames, with flowers ranging from red-pink to orange-yellow and red buds among the green foliage.
