Anna French wallpaper

Anna French wallpaper is drawn in London and ships to the United States from our European warehouse. British designer Anna French and her husband John French started the company in 1976, in a Victorian-era lace factory in Scotland. Since 2007 the label has belonged to the American house Thibaut, with Anna French as its British side. If you know Thibaut wallpaper, this is its English half.

Anna French roll sizes for 9 ft ceilings

Anna French rolls follow American sizing rather than the narrow European roll. Most designs come 27 in (68.6 cm) wide by 27 ft (8.23 m) long, about 60 sq ft (5.6 m²) to a roll. The linen and sisal grounds are wider and shorter: 36 in (91.4 cm) by 24 ft (7.32 m), roughly 72 sq ft (6.7 m²). On a 9 ft (2.74 m) ceiling a 27 ft roll gives three drops when the repeat is small and two once the repeat grows. Order the whole room in one go so the batch matches.

Linen textures, metallic accents and color

Many of these designs read as linen wallpaper or a fine weave up close. Metallic accents pick up lamplight in rooms that never see the sun, and the palettes suit a shingled coastal house as readily as a city apartment. The same idea runs through our bathroom wallpaper.

Hanging the brand's papers on drywall

Most rolls are made on a non-woven backing, so the paste goes onto the wall and the strips go up dry. On painted drywall that is the simpler method, and the same reason non-woven wallpaper pulls away cleanly later. Order a sample first, since color behaves differently under your own fixtures than on a screen. For a big repeat or a mural, bring in an experienced installer.
