Industrial mural wallpaper is printed to the size of your own wall, so a concrete surface, a brick facade or a sheet of weathered steel lands where you want it instead of being cut from a standard roll. You pass on the width and the height, the artwork is scaled to those numbers, and the file is split into vertical strips that hang side by side as one picture.

Measuring your wall before your mural is printed

Measure width and height in three places each and use the largest reading; drywall and old plaster are rarely square. A feature wall behind a sofa runs around 12 ft (3.66 m) by 9 ft (2.74 m), a powder room wall closer to 5 ft (1.52 m). You do not add a margin yourself: the artwork is scaled to the measurements you send and trimmed in production, so an accurate reading matters more than a generous one.

How the strips of an industrial mural line up across the wall

The design arrives as numbered strips, hung in order. Because the image is scaled once, for your wall only, a crack in the concrete or a joint in the brickwork carries on across the seam. That is the working difference between a made-to-measure mural and a repeating roll; for industrial designs outside the made-to-measure range, see industrial wallpaper.

What a concrete, brick or rusted look does to a room

A cool gray concrete print flattens the light and pushes the wall back, which helps in a narrow entryway or a primary bedroom. Rust and oxidized copper do the opposite: they warm a north-facing room and pick up a wood floor. A near-black texture behind a bed reads as one solid surface until you stand close. Compare the darkest tones in anthracite wallpaper, or see plaster and worn paint at full scale in textured wallpaper.

Where industrial mural wallpaper works in an American home

Cover the wall you see from the doorway. On an open-plan main floor that is the wall behind the dining table; in a home office, the wall behind your chair, where a graphic city print stays legible on camera. A breakfast nook with an 8 ft (2.44 m) ceiling takes a full-height concrete image well. Nearby themes are the built structures of architecture murals, the line work in geometric murals, the long views of panoramic murals and the warmer language of retro murals.

Ordering an industrial mural from a European specialist

Concrete and rust hold quiet color that a screen flattens, so order a sample and tape it to the wall for a day. Designs here come from studios such as Tecnografica, Wall & Deco and Daisy James. Send your measurements with the order and the print is made to fit them. Duties and taxes are included in the price shown, and your order is shipped from the Netherlands. The full made-to-measure range starts in murals.
