Suede wallpaper in an American home

Suede wallpaper puts a soft, matte nap on walls that in most US houses are flat painted drywall. That contrast is the point: a smooth wall throws light back, a napped one holds it, so a large plane stops reading as empty. On a two-story entryway wall or an open plan fireplace wall, the texture does the work a pattern otherwise would. It is built from fine microfibers that copy the surface of real suede, so it behaves like a textile and skips the fragility of hide.

Prep counts double: raking light along a napped wall finds every ridge of joint compound.
