Animal mural wallpaper is printed to the measurements of one specific wall, so a flock of seabirds can travel the full 14 ft (4.27 m) of a living room without the motif starting over halfway. You supply the width and the height; the artwork is scaled around those two numbers before anything goes to print.

Measuring the wall before you order animal mural wallpaper

Measure the width at the baseboard, at mid-height and just under the ceiling, and the height at both ends. A wall that reads 12 ft (3.66 m) low down often reads 12 ft 1 in (3.68 m) at the top, and drywall corners are rarely square. Send us the largest figure in each direction. The file is then divided into numbered vertical drops that hang side by side in order. Because that division follows the artwork instead of a fixed roll width, you are not fitting a repeat around a corner and hoping it lands well. The seams fall where the drawing allows them, and the wall reads as one uninterrupted scene.

Animal motifs that hold up at wall size

Birds carry scale better than almost anything else. A coastal scene with seabirds stays calm at 9 ft (2.74 m) high, and a fine bird pattern sits quietly behind a dining table; the bird wallpaper collection shows how wide that range runs. Butterflies behave the other way around: printed large, a butterfly design flattens into color and line. A single animal, a goat for instance, gives a room one subject instead of an all-over field. Markings and hides are a separate matter and live in animal skin wallpaper. For foliage with wildlife inside it, compare jungle murals against flower murals, or look at the wide scenery in panoramic murals.

Where an animal mural works in an American home

A powder room is the low-risk place to start: four short walls, one often under 4 ft (1.22 m) wide, and a design you meet for a minute at a time. An entryway takes a bolder motif, since you walk past it rather than sit with it. In a primary bedroom, keep the animals to the wall behind the headboard; foliage-heavy scenes settle down at that size, and the green wallpaper range narrows the search. A breakfast nook suits birds. A stairwell suits one tall subject running up two floors, roughly 18 ft (5.49 m) of unbroken image.

Materials, samples and shipping

Ask which substrates a design prints on before you settle on it: some run on non-woven wallpaper, others carry a wipeable coating that earns its keep in a kitchen or bathroom. Then order a sample. A north-facing room pulls gray out of warm tones, and a printed swatch under your own light settles that faster than any screen will. The designs come from European studios including Sandberg, Coordonne, Wall & Deco, LondonArt and Daisy James. Duties and taxes are included in the price shown, shipped from the Netherlands.
