Dedar cushions

Dedar cushions carry a piece of Italian weaving into a room without asking you to rearrange anything else in it. Each one is cut and sewn to order in our own atelier, using cloth from a family business that has worked near Como since 1976. You pick the cloth, the size and the finish, and the piece is built after you order it.

Dedar cushions made from fabric produced in Italy

Dedar was founded in 1976 near Como, Italy's historic silk district, and a large part of the cloth is still made in Italy today. The house is known for color pairings other mills would not risk, for texture with real depth, and for pattern drawn with a graphic hand. At pillow scale that character has nowhere to hide, which is exactly why it works. From 2011 through 2020 Dedar also produced furnishing fabric and wallpaper collections together with Hermès. Choosing between velvet, jacquard and woven texture

The cloth does most of the work here. A dense velvet stays quiet and drinks up light, while a graphic jacquard holds a plain sofa on its own and needs no support around it. To compare surfaces before you decide, look through the velvet fabrics and the wider cushion fabric selection. Sizes, piping and fringe for a made-to-order pillow

Dedar cushions are sewn to the size you give us, so the pillow suits the seat it lands on instead of a standard format. Tell us the measurements you want and how the edge should be finished, with a piping or a fringe, and the cushion is made up from there. Want a matched pair flanking the sofa? That takes one extra step. Deliberately mismatched pairs are just as easy when you want the seating to look gathered over time rather than staged.

Combining Dedar with other designer cushions

A single patterned piece on a plain seat is often enough. For more depth, set an Italian jacquard beside geometric cushions in a related tone, or work from the broader range of designer cushions and let one color run through the whole group. Pattern can continue onto the wall as well, which is why the Dedar wallpaper collection sits beside the cushions in our range.

Order a sample before anything is cut

A color that reads well on screen can shift under the low winter light of a north-facing room, so ask for a sample and keep it on the sofa for a few days. Our team replies by email or phone and will walk you through cloth, tone and scale first.
