Take width and height in three places; older American houses rarely give the same number twice. A wall of 12 ft (3.66 m) across asks for a different crop than one of 20 ft (6.10 m). Note what interrupts the surface: a return-air grille, a thermostat, the header over a doorway. Leave a couple of inches (about 5 cm) spare at ceiling and baseboard for trimming, and prime the drywall properly, since one continuous image leaves a joint compound ridge nowhere to hide.

Two substrates carry the print. The first is vinyl on a non-woven backing; it sits flat and quiet against the wall and keeps deep colors dense rather than chalky. The second is EQ•Dekor, a fiberglass-reinforced material the brand worked out with Mapei. EQ•Dekor is water-resistant, so it holds up in a bathroom, a shower area or a wellness room, where ordinary wallpaper gives up, and it goes on with a dedicated adhesive.
