Kanako fabric collection Elitis

Elitis Kanako fabric in small-patterned velvet

Kanako fabric by Elitis covers seats and cushions in small patterns that repeat from edge to edge. The photos set it in warm rooms: bentwood chairs over a woven bamboo mat, floor cushions on a terracotta platform, a slatted wooden bench. Against all that wood, the velvet colors look deeper, from teal and navy to rust brown. Up close you pick out flecks, dashes and wave lines. Step back and they blur into texture, so a chair carries pattern without taking over the room.

Six designs in the Kanako fabric collection

Mochi fabric scatters small cream flecks at random over a teal-blue ground, with no direction for the eye to follow. Inari fabric is more orderly. Short wavy dashes in pairs switch between horizontal and vertical like a basket weave, black-navy on periwinkle blue, with crisp edges that stand up from the surface. A darker navy version appears on a second chair. Masaki fabric lines up rows of tiny black scallops dotted with cream across rust brown. The striped and graphic designs are quieter. Misao fabric runs vertical stripes in beige and sand with a hand-woven look. Miki fabric alternates bands of varying width in green, beige and gray, some soft and fibrous, others smoother. Takao fabric builds a grid of rectangles and horizontal stripes in sand and golden brown.

Pairing Kanako by Elitis with wood and terracotta

This Elitis fabric sits well beside honey-toned wood, woven bamboo and clay tile, as the photos show. Balance the busier velvets with plain or striped companions, like the linen-look and ribbed cushions placed next to them. Blue Kanako fabric plays against orange-brown tiles, while the rust brown of Masaki picks up the color of the wood.
