Terra wallpaper by Masureel: vases, leaves and clay on the wall

Terra wallpaper by Masureel draws its visual language from earth and pottery. You see vases, totem-like figures, leaf shapes and grids of arches, drawn with a loose, sketch-like line. The colour palette stays close to the earth: terracotta, rust, ochre, aubergine and cream, punctuated here and there by gold or an unexpected violet-blue. What connects the patterns is a visible texture reminiscent of plaster, clay or beadwork. Yet they vary greatly in scale, from a small repeating motif to a mural that fills an entire wall.

Patterns in the Terra wallpaper collection

Maeve wallpaper covers the wall with almond-shaped leaves that overlap and point in all directions. Each leaf has an aubergine edge, an old-rose fill and a gold-coloured core with fine lines. Potteries wallpaper works as a panoramic mural: a row of flat silhouettes of vases and totems, some with comb-shaped protrusions, against cracked beige plaster with a rust-brown band at the bottom. Two violet-blue shapes break up the warm palette. Tehani wallpaper is the most abstract, with square panels full of concentric arches that rotate from panel to panel, cream on ochre yellow, in a texture like beadwork. Pottery returns in Hemia wallpaper and Hiva wallpaper, where vases are the subject; in Hiva they are painted with coloured clay. Miri wallpaper revolves around the rough structure of clay, Alcove wallpaper around architecture with soft clay walls. In Guinea wallpaper, guinea fowl forage, and Tasos wallpaper completes the series.

Combining Terra by Masureel with wood, stone and marble

In the images, Terra wallpaper is shown among materials that pick up the earth tones: warm wood, a marble tabletop, rough stone and linen. For a wall that works as a whole, choose the small grid of Tehani or the continuous leaf pattern of Maeve. Potteries calls for a single clear wall, where the silhouettes have room to stand out. Keep the furniture simple, and the pattern will tell the story.
