William Morris wallpaper collection House of Hackney

William Morris wallpaper by House of Hackney in muted earth tones

This William Morris wallpaper brings patterns into your home that fill the entire wall. House of Hackney draws flowers, tendrils and leaves in a flat, graphic style, with clear outlines and fine hatching. No patch of background is left bare. The colours are muted: brown, olive, cream, ochre and a cool slate blue-grey. Patterns on a dark ground make a small room feel enclosed, while a light background keeps a room open. The difference lies mainly in scale and subject, from dense oak-like foliage to chrysanthemums as wide as the back of a chair.

Patterns in the William Morris wallpaper collection

Compton Magna wallpaper sets broad flowers with stippled centres, tulip-like buds and curling acanthus leaves on dark brown, with accents in ochre and slate blue-grey. The Compton pattern returns in Compton wallpaper and, on a smaller scale, in Compton Parvum wallpaper. Chrysanthemum Magna wallpaper centres on large cream chrysanthemums with ochre lines, set among grey-green foliage and small willow leaves on dark olive. Foliage wallpaper leaves out the flowers and shows only serrated oak-like leaves on branching stems, in olive and khaki green on cream. Leaves also dominate in Acanthus wallpaper, with large scalloped shapes in deep blue-green, light blue and off-white. Utopia wallpaper depicts an imaginary cityscape full of trees, and Earthly Paradise wallpaper is based on an embroidery by May Morris. You will also find Hyacinth wallpaper, Hyacinth Novellus wallpaper, Golden Lily wallpaper and Quercus wallpaper.

House of Hackney wallpaper in the toilet, study and seating area

The images show how William Morris by House of Hackney works differently in each room. In a toilet with a marble washbasin and brass taps, Compton Magna surrounds you on every side, down to the wainscoting. In a study, Foliage is paired with green-painted woodwork, a wooden desk and a fern by the fireplace. Chrysanthemum Magna needs no more than a single dark chair and a linen curtain.
