Extinct Animals 3D wallpaper by Moooi: relief that catches the light

The Extinct Animals 3D wallpaper shows how far you can go with one colour and a good relief. Moooi based three patterns on the skin, feathers and fins of extinct animals. You won't see a print anywhere: the pattern only appears when light sweeps across the wall and shadow falls into the grooves. This makes your wall change with the time of day and the lamps you switch on. From taupe via light grey-blue to almost black, from large diamonds to small ovals: you choose what suits your space and light conditions.

Patterns in the Extinct Animals 3D wallpaper collection

Dwarf Rhino wallpaper has the largest repeat of the three: taupe-grey diamonds and zigzag bands, as wide as a chair back, built up from small scales and herringbone motifs that evoke the folded skin of a dwarf rhinoceros. It looks robust, almost like armour. Dodo Pavone wallpaper is softer in tone and pattern. On a light grey-blue background, paisley and feather shapes interlock, drawn with curved, parallel lines and teardrops, like the plumage of the dodo after which the pattern is named. Flying Coral Fish wallpaper is the darkest and smallest in scale: black-anthracite with almond-shaped raised sections in staggered rows, like the translucent pectoral fins of the fish. Where the other two have a suede look, this pattern has a satin look.

Combining Moooi wallpaper: lighting and furniture with Extinct Animals 3D

Because Extinct Animals 3D by Moooi speaks only through relief, your lighting determines how much of the pattern you see. Grazing light from the side makes the grooves appear deeper. The mood images show what goes with it: gold against the taupe Dwarf Rhino, copper and a black table with Dodo Pavone, green velvet and chrome for the dark Flying Coral Fish. This gives a statement piece of furniture a calm, layered backdrop.
