Grasscloth ll wallpaper by Mark Alexander: natural fibre in colour and texture

Grasscloth ll wallpaper is all about the wall itself: no pattern, just fibre. Mark Alexander has natural strands hand-woven into lengths in which you can see every irregularity. In the images it covers a niche right into the corners, fills the panels of a kitchen cabinet between walnut frames and runs along a white-painted windowsill. The colour palette stays close to the earth: taupe, dark green, reddish-brown, cream. In raking light the ridges and knots stand out, so that a plain wall still gains depth.

Patterns in the Grasscloth ll wallpaper collection

Mark Alexander wallpaper in this range differs in fibre and colour from pattern to pattern. Arrowroot wallpaper has fine, irregular fibres of arrowroot in taupe, with a thin network of threads over it. Palm wallpaper is woven raffia with a slightly mottled texture. In dark green it looks like densely woven fabric. Bamboo wallpaper shows reddish-brown horizontal strands with small dark knots. Things get coarser with Banana Bark wallpaper, in which raffia and banana bark come together, and with Wicker wallpaper, where two coarse fibres intertwine. Reed wallpaper alternates sisal and seagrass in random order to create an almost plain surface. Burlap wallpaper features hand-woven jute washed with white; in Kuima wallpaper, colourful grass strands are washed with chalk white.

Combining Grasscloth ll wallpaper with your interior

The images show where Grasscloth ll by Mark Alexander belongs: next to materials that are just as honest. The green Palm sits between walnut frames with brass knobs, with white marble in front. The reddish-brown niche with Bamboo holds a wooden bowl and a bowl of leaves. Next to the taupe wall with Arrowroot stand cream ceramics and dried grasses. Choose your colour to match the wood and pottery you already have and let the wall do the quiet work.
