House of Hackney wallpaper reaches American homes in European roll sizes, worth sorting out before you order. The London label, started in 2011 by Frieda Gormley and Javvy M Royle, works in metric widths and drops that do not map onto the single and double rolls sold in US stores.

Each roll is 17.7 in (45 cm) wide and comes in two drop lengths: 6.6 ft (2 m) and 9.8 ft (3 m). The 9.8 ft drop covers a standard 8 ft ceiling with trim allowance to spare and still reaches under a 9 ft one; the 6.6 ft drop suits a chimney breast, a stair panel or the wall above wainscoting. The width is narrower than an American roll, so count seams rather than rolls. Much of the range is printed to order: buy every roll for a wall at once, with margin for pattern matching.

Printing happens in Sweden at Borås Tapetfabrik, on FSC-certified stock with water-based inks; the brand holds B Corp certification. Keep it dry and dust-free, wipe with a barely damp cloth, skip abrasives.
