Jungle Murals

Measuring your wall for a jungle mural

Send us the width and height, taken at the widest and tallest point. Walls are rarely square: a room measuring 9 ft (2.74 m) on the left can read 9 ft 2 in (2.79 m) on the right, so always give us the larger figure, and we allow a trim margin at top and bottom. The artwork is then split into numbered panels, hung edge to edge rather than overlapped on prepared drywall. Panel width depends on the design and the maker, so you get the layout to check before anything is printed. Tell us where a door, a window or a fireplace breaks the run: the image can be shifted sideways so the main subject stays off the opening.

Dark canopy or open botanical: picking a jungle scene

Designs behave differently once they fill a wall. Dense foliage in deep green and near-black pulls the room inward and reads best from a few feet away, which suits the wall behind a bed. More open compositions keep an 8 ft (2.44 m) ceiling from feeling low. Oversized graphic leaves want a long, uninterrupted run; on a short wall you end up with a fragment of the drawing rather than the drawing. A powder room takes the whole treatment: four short walls, one scene wrapping the corners. An entryway wall of 6 ft (1.83 m) works as one tall drop you meet at the door. In a primary bedroom, measure the headboard first, often 24 to 36 in (61 to 91 cm), so the main subject sits above it instead of behind it. A breakfast nook carries a lighter palm study without crowding the table.
