Paperweave wallpaper by Mark Alexander: woven paper on the wall

The Paperweave wallpaper by Mark Alexander consists of paper yarns and paper ribbons woven into an even texture. There is no pattern: the weave itself forms the image and runs across the entire surface. Behind the threads is a coloured paper backing that shows through the weave and gives the wall depth. Up close you see every thread and every irregularity. From a few metres away the wall becomes a calm colour field in beige, sand or dark olive. This gives a room texture without a pattern demanding attention.

Ori wallpaper has fine, irregular threads that run horizontally and vertically, like linen or grasscloth. The light threads lie over a coloured backing, so light beige and sand gold alternate with grey flecks. Shifu wallpaper is coarser. Yarns of varying thickness form an open basket weave with a small check grid that you also see from a distance. In the photo it's sand with taupe, behind two wooden chairs with cane backs. Papier wallpaper goes the other way with a very fine diagonal twill that looks almost plain. Here you see it in dark olive grey-brown behind a grey-green velvet armchair and a brass wall lamp. Kami wallpaper combines hand-woven paper ribbons with a linen thread, on a backing in a contrasting colour.

Paperweave by Mark Alexander with wood, cane and brass

The images show what these walls go well with: vertically ribbed wood, cane, brass, earthenware and jute. The light designs keep a hallway or seating area feeling open and make dark wood stand out strongly. If you choose the olive shade of Papier, the wall becomes a dark background against which velvet and gold-coloured metal glow.
