Vescom Fabrics
New Vescom wallpaper
Vescom fabrics come from a Dutch family business founded in 1971 in Deurne, and the brand now works in more than ninety countries. Its home turf is the contract market: hotels, offices, healthcare and schools, where a textile has to hold up through years of hard use.
That brief explains why the cloth behaves so well at home. A dining chair you sit on every night asks the same question of a fabric as a hotel lobby, on a smaller scale.
The story behind Vescom fabrics
Vescom started in 1971 as a family company and has been part of the investment firm Gilde Equity Management since late 2023. Production runs in the Netherlands, Germany and the United States, among other countries. The brand develops, makes and distributes three closely related products: wallcoverings, upholstery fabrics and curtain fabrics.
Wall, window and furniture come out of one design philosophy, so they can be matched rather than forced together. Vescom is known for a level-headed, design-led approach where looks and function stay out of each other's way, and sustainability is a fixed part of product development.
Weaves and look of Vescom fabrics
The range runs from flat, plain weaves to cloth with real relief. The plain qualities read calm and even and hold their appearance for years, which matters on a sofa you have no plans to reupholster. The textured ones work with the light. Ribs, ridges and melange yarns throw small shadows, so a color looks deeper in a fold than on a flat seat.
Up close, Sindo shows a tight grid of tiny squares, so an orange reads as a shimmer of yellow and red-orange threads. Naltar carries wavy raised ridges across fine ribs. Mioko is nearly smooth, with a faint grain that shifts from dark plum in shadow to pale pink-gray in the light.
Signature designs among Vescom fabrics
Below is a selection of the Vescom designs we carry. Each line notes what you actually see in the cloth.
- Sindo — a fine grid weave of tiny squares that reads as a two-tone micro-check
- Naltar — fine lengthwise ribs crossed by raised, slightly wavy ridges, in sixteen colorways
- Mioko — a matte surface with a faint fine grain and small irregularities in the weave
- Heather — a mottled melange weave where shades of color run softly into one another
- Dolin — a fine weave that forms a soft relief, catching light across its surface
- Delos — a velvety face with a subtle sheen, in earth tones and quiet grays
- Zenith — an upholstered look with fine structure, from neutral earth tones to saturated colors
- Zanzibar — a surface structure that recalls handwoven cloth, with depth in the texture
Where Vescom fabrics work best
Upholstered dining chairs are the obvious fit for Vescom upholstery fabric. They get daily use, and the contract background shows there. The same goes for a family room sofa or a bench in a breakfast nook. A headboard asks less of a fabric, which opens the door to the softer textures.
At the window, Vescom curtain fabrics give a room softness and depth, and drapes in a textured weave pick up the light along every fold. The acoustic voiles deserve a separate look. By the brand's own account they absorb up to five times more sound than an ordinary sheer. An open-plan main floor with hardwood, drywall and a double-height entry tends to ring, and these voiles temper the echo without making the room look heavy.
Because Vescom develops wallcoverings and fabrics side by side, you can carry one design language from the chair to the wall behind it. Browse the Vescom wallcovering range with your fabric in mind. A textured cloth against a quiet wall, or the reverse, keeps a room from feeling flat.
Choosing and caring for Vescom upholstery fabric
Start with what the piece does all day. The product page for each Vescom upholstery fabric lists the composition and abrasion resistance of that quality, and the abrasion figure tells you whether a weave belongs on a seat cushion or a headboard. Heavier weaves go on seating, lighter ones hang at the window. For drapes at a south-facing window, ask us about lightfastness before you order.
Care differs per quality, so check the care instructions on the product page before you clean. Not sure how to handle the upholstery or curtain work? Our team gives personal advice on the approach that fits your project.
