Wood veneer wallpaper

Wood veneer wallpaper consists of thin layers of real wood veneer applied to a backing. The surface displays visible wood grain, color nuances, and natural variations, with no two strips being exactly the same. Wood veneer wallpaper is used to add the look of wood to walls without using solid wood.

Wood veneer wallpaper on American drywall

Wood veneer wallpaper is wafer-thin sheets of real wood bonded to a flexible backing. Because that backing is non-woven or paper, it hangs like ordinary wallpaper: no furring strips, no boards to cut, nothing to mount. The wall reads as timber while the job stays paperhanging, which is why veneer turns up where real paneling would be a nuisance. A powder room's short wall, a stairwell, the flat run above a fireplace.

Measuring the wall before you order

Sort the quantity out before you order, not after. Take the roll width from the product page, divide your wall width by it and round up: that is your number of drops. Then measure floor to ceiling, because that height decides how many full drops come out of one roll, and a 9 ft (2.74 m) wall gets fewer of them than an 8 ft (2.44 m) one. Order the whole wall in one go rather than topping up later. We ship from Europe, and duties and taxes are included on orders going to the US.

Species, grain and the finish on top

The species decides the figure as much as the color of the finished wall. Logs are cut into layers thin enough to stay flexible, and each layer keeps the grain and color shifts already in the tree. Drops are aligned at the seam so the pattern runs on across the wall instead of stopping at every joint. A matte finish holds the surface back; an oiled or waxed one lifts a warm sheen out of the grain. Wood runs from pale oak to deep walnut, and the sealed surface takes daily use.

Where these designs work in an open-plan home

An open floor plan usually has one wall that anchors the room, and veneer does that without adding pattern. Pale oak keeps a large living space calm; a dark walnut pulls a seating group together. One wall behind the bed gives a bedroom the quiet of a good hotel. An entryway does different work: small surface, first thing anyone sees, and it registers in seconds.

European houses, and a sample before you commit

We keep this list short on purpose. Élitis is where to look for pronounced natural texture; Casamance and CMO Paris work in a more elegant, contemporary register; Greenland and Zinc Textile round out the collection. Grain photographs badly, so order a sample, tape it to the wall it is meant for and judge it by morning light and again under lamps. If wood turns out to be wrong for the room, textured wallpaper, sisal wallpaper and grasscloth wallpaper sit next to it in the range.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ about Wood veneer wallpaper
What exactly is wood veneer wallpaper?
Wood veneer wallpaper is a wall covering with a top layer of genuine, thinly sliced wood on a flexible backing. Each sheet has a unique grain and colour variation — you bring the warmth and texture of real wood to the wall, without carpentry.
How much does wood veneer wallpaper cost?

Prices vary by material, brand, order unit and production method. Current prices are shown on each product page in USD.

Is wood veneer wallpaper suitable for humid rooms?
No. Wood veneer is sensitive to moisture and reacts to fluctuating humidity. Choose it for living rooms, offices or bedrooms; for bathrooms we recommend washable vinyl wallpaper.
How do I install wood veneer wallpaper?
With the heavy-duty adhesive prescribed by the manufacturer, applied directly to a flat, dry substrate (paste the wall). Due to the natural material, we recommend installation by an experienced wallpaper hanger.
Why do the strips of wood veneer wallpaper differ from each other?
Because the top layer is real wood: grain and tone vary from tree to tree and sheet to sheet. That's not a defect but precisely the charm of the material. Order a sample to assess it at home.
