Architecture Murals

Architecture mural wallpaper puts columns, arches and plasterwork on the wall at the scale a building really has, printed to the exact width and height you send us. Made per wall rather than sold by the roll, the print keeps a colonnade upright and an arch true instead of breaking at a seam.

Measuring for architecture mural wallpaper, drop by drop

Measure the wall at left, middle and right, then floor to ceiling at both ends. Houses settle, and a wall that reads 12 ft (3.66 m) at the baseboard can be half an inch (1.3 cm) narrower at the ceiling. Note the largest figure in each direction and send those. The artwork is scaled and fitted to the dimensions you give, so there is no pattern repeat to work out on site and no roll widths to reconcile.

From there the image is divided into numbered drops that hang left to right. Each drop carries its own slice of the picture, so the design continues across the seams instead of restarting per panel. On a stairwell climbing 16 ft (4.88 m), that is the whole point. Drop widths vary by brand, so the layout is set once your measurements are in.

What these murals look like on a wall

The designs fall into a few families. Some are surface studies: troweled plaster and worn lime, printed close enough that you read the marks of the tool, and industrial murals sit closer still to raw, unfinished surfaces. Others are structural, with rows of ornament, framed borders and geometry drawn from modern buildings; the geometric murals keep that drafted logic and drop the buildings. A third group is scenic, with classical detail and ruin-like fragments in an atmospheric background.

Scale changes how the artwork reads. On a 5 ft (1.52 m) powder room wall a plaster print behaves like a finish; across a 20 ft (6.10 m) living room wall the same artwork becomes the architecture of the room itself.

Where architecture murals work in an American home

An entryway is the usual first choice for a made-to-measure mural: one wall, seen head-on. In a primary bedroom, a quieter plaster print behind the headboard keeps things calm. On new drywall, prime the wall first so the paste grabs evenly. For a stairwell or a double-height entry, work with an installer who has hung seamless wall prints before.

Choosing between architecture murals and related themes

A panoramic mural carries one scene around a whole room rather than holding a single wall, and oriental murals bring pavilions and screens into the same made-to-measure format. For material and color, textured wallpaper gives relief you can feel, while black wallpaper suits line work read as drawing on a dark ground. The full murals range sits behind all of it.

Ordering your mural and samples

Order a sample first: a screen flattens plaster and pushes contrast, and at wall size that shows. A sample tells you the paper weight, the finish and how the color sits in your own light. Unsure about your measurements? Send them over and we will check the drop layout before anything goes to print. Duties and taxes are included in the price shown, shipped from the Netherlands.
