Landscape wallpaper on American walls
Landscape wallpaper answers a problem many US homes share: plenty of drywall, plenty of ceiling height, little happening on either. A painted valley, the edge of a forest or a mountain range gives a flat plane depth and a horizon, so the room reads as though it has one more window. We buy these scenes from European studios, among them Sandberg, Cole & Son, Little Greene, Pierre Frey, Zoffany and Iksel: painted skies, low hills, woodland, water and panoramic distances.
Entryways, stairwells and powder rooms
In an American floor plan, the right wall for a scene is often not in the living room. An entryway is met head-on by everyone who walks through the door. A stairwell gives you height ordinary rooms lack, so a tall scene resolves on a two-story wall where a repeating pattern only marches upward. A powder room, small and usually windowless, is where a distant view returns the most per square foot.
Open-plan rooms and zoning without a wall
Open plans leave fewer walls to work with, so the ones you have carry more. Running one of these designs behind the dining table marks that end off from the kitchen without construction. Keep the surfaces around it quiet, with plain wallpaper or a low-key textured wallpaper, and the scene stays the one thing the eye travels to.
Roll widths and ceiling height
The European collections are printed on narrower rolls than American homeowners expect: 20.9 in (53 cm) is the usual width, so a wall takes more drops. On an 8 ft (2.44 m) wall nearly any scene fits; at 9 or 10 ft (2.74 or 3.05 m) there is room for the full sky. Panoramic murals are cut to your measurements, and we check the panel order with you first, so the horizon meets itself at every join.
Which wallpaper material suits drywall
Non-woven wallpaper lies flat on smooth drywall and keeps seams close to invisible. That matters on a finely painted distance, where a visible join breaks the illusion. Textile wallcovering does the reverse: it adds a slight grain and takes the echo out of a room with hard floors. If a full scene is more than you want, botanical wallpaper gives you the same greenery without the horizon.
Ordering landscape wallpaper from Europe
Every paper here carries its own palette, usually a green, a gray, a warm earth tone and a little sky. Repeat one of those in the upholstery or a rug and the room settles. If the green draws you, the wider green wallpaper range shows how that tone reads in other rooms. Order a sample first; a screen flattens these scenes. Shipping to the US includes duties and taxes, so the order costs what the checkout says.
