Thibaut wallpaper

Thibaut wallpaper carries an American passport: Richard E. Thibaut started the house on Madison Avenue in New York in 1886, aged 29, and it is still the oldest wallpaper company in the country. Design work stays in house, which is why an archive reproduction and a jungle silhouette can share one catalog without either looking watered down.

Where Thibaut wallpaper works in an American floor plan

Open-plan living gives you long sight lines and very few natural stopping points, so pattern needs a wall that ends somewhere: a chimney breast, the wall behind a staircase, the short side of a dining zone. A powder room is the opposite problem. No daylight, four small walls, and every guest reads them from 2 ft (61 cm) away, which happens to be the distance at which chinoiserie and damask repay the attention. An entryway sits between the two, seen for ten seconds at a time but by everyone who comes through the door.

Grasscloth and woven texture on drywall

Drywall is flat, and a flat finish on a flat wall gives light nothing to do. A woven grasscloth solves that: the texture gives the wall depth and warmth, and it keeps a room calm without letting the surface fall flat. For that side of the range, look at Grasscloth Resource 6 and Texture Resource 8. Hanging it is not a beginner job. These natural weaves ask for specific application techniques and the lengths have to align precisely, so work with a wallpaper hanger who knows the material.

Prints, stripes and archive patterns

For pattern rather than texture, Stripes and Checks Resource holds the quieter geometric end, while Heritage, Colony, Islander and Vista show how far the house casts its net. A good number of these designs also exist as fabric, so drapery and upholstery can be cut from the same pattern as the wall instead of approximated in a near-match.

Ordering Thibaut wallpaper for delivery in the US

Shipping runs from Europe with import duties and taxes settled up front, so nothing is collected at your door. Keep in mind that a screen flattens both color and weave, and a grasscloth only really declares itself under your own lighting. Then measure properly. Most walls here run 8 ft (2.44 m) or 9 ft (2.74 m), while a stairwell can reach 20 ft (6.10 m), and every extra foot moves both the roll count and the amount of pattern lost to matching at each drop. Send the measurements over and we will work the quantity out with you. As an appointed dealer we can reach the whole Thibaut range, fabrics included.
