Greenland Wallpaper

Greenland wallpaper comes from a specialist in natural wallcoverings: grasscloth, sisal, abaca, cork, wood veneer and woven textiles, made in the company's own factory and exported worldwide. Each quality comes in a deep run of colors and is sold by the meter, so you buy what the wall needs.

The story behind Greenland wallpaper

Greenland Wallcoverings is based in Shanghai and has been exporting natural wallcoverings since 2008. Its factory stands in Lu'an, in Anhui province, where grasses, plant fiber, paper yarn, cork and veneer are woven or laminated onto paper. The focus has always been the material rather than print: a Greenland wall gets its character from the fiber, not from a pattern.

Materials and look of Greenland wallpaper

The natural qualities read as calm texture. Sisal and abaca give an even weave with a faint sheen; hemp and jute look coarser and drier; raffia lies in wide, flat strips. Paperweave draws a crisper line with steadier color. Cork brings a warm, irregular grain, in some qualities over a metallic ground, and wood veneer shows real timber figure. In the Aroma collections the weave turns finer and softer, with the sheen of raw silk, the dry hand of linen or the nap of suede.

Signature collections of Greenland wallpaper

Greenland groups its qualities in collections, each with its own character:

• Aroma Linen wallpaper collection Greenland: 24 linen-look designs in 128 colors, from chalky ivory to charcoal.
• Aroma Silk wallpaper collection Greenland: 18 designs with the sheen of raw silk, plus suede-look and metallic weaves.
• T173 wallpaper collection Greenland: textile wallcoverings with the look of suede, wool, linen and silk.
• Natural Palette wallpaper collection Greenland: the core of natural fibers, from sisal and abaca to cork and wood veneer, in nearly 300 colors.

Where Greenland wallpaper works best

Natural fiber belongs in dry rooms: a living room, a dining room, the wall behind a bed, a study or a long hallway. In an open-plan home, one Greenland wall gives a seating area warmth without adding pattern. Designers also use it in hotels, offices and restaurants, where a wall needs presence but has to stay quiet. Keep real fiber out of full bathrooms and away from strong afternoon sun, which can fade natural dyes.

Hanging Greenland wallpaper

Natural weaves show their seams, and color shifts slightly from one production lot to the next. Order the whole room at once, hang the lengths in sequence and hire a paperhanger who has worked with grasscloth before. Our wallpaper calculator takes feet and inches and works out the meters you need, and a sample shows the fiber and color in your own light.
